Tips on Traveling with Pets to Memphis

You’re apt to find plenty of fun things to do with pets in Memphis! Memphis, Tennessee has many attractions (like Graceland!) and a great live music scene. If you are planning on traveling with pets to Memphis, you are in luck, because we’ve done a lot of the work in finding the places to go and things you can do with your dog, which you can view on our Memphis Travel Guide designed specifically for pet owners. This is a great thing, because Memphis’ most famous attractions like Graceland, the music venues on Beale Street and the Civil Rights Museum are strictly not dog friendly.

Make sure to stop at Central Avenue Barbecue when traveling with pets to Memphis for some of the city's finestVacation Pet Friendly has searched out not only fun things to do with your dog in Memphis, but also doggie day care for when you want to channel your inner Elvis while touring Graceland.  While you’re off touring the Civil Rights Museum or enjoying some live music on Memphis’ famous Beale Street, drop your pup off for a day of play at The Brown Dog Lodge. This relaxing spa experience (their words, not ours!) for dogs is a great place for doggie day care or overnight boarding in the Memphis area.

Once you’re done with Graceland, pick your pooch up from doggie day care and head out to Shelby Farms Greenline Trail – a seven mile trail that leads from Midtown Memphis to Shelby Farms.  Leashed pets are welcome on the trail. Once you arrive at the actual Shelby Farms Park – dogs are welcome on all trails on leashes but we’re not sure why you’d stick to the trails when the off-leash dog area is so amazing.  It is huge and features rolling hills, several lakes, and room for even the most energetic pup to run and run and run.

Here’s a great video of things to do in Memphis, however, you may need to make doggie daycare arrangements for some of the activities you see on the video. Check on our Memphis Travel Guide to see if the activity allows pets.

After your outing at the park, head to one of Memphis’ dog friendly patios for a good meal. The Bayou Bar & Grill, Harry’s Detour, Tsunami, Central BBQ, Stella Restaurant or a whole host of other dining hot spots with outdoor patios perfect for dining al fresco with your favorite dog.  A great dog friendly tour of Memphis can be had through the Carriage Company of Memphis – a completely dog friendly operation.  The horse drawn carriage tours are chock full of fun and interesting facts about the history of Memphis. The Carriage Tours are located in downtown Memphis and are stationed in front of the Famous Peabody Hotel as well as at the corners of Second and Beale and Third and Beale. They can even pick you and your pooch up from your hotel or restaurant.

This is a tour you may not want to miss and you will need to check if it is allows pets. There are plenty of kennels and doggie daycares for when you need some alone time.
