For those with a taste for extravagance and the luxury of being able to pay for it or score a great deal, Vacation Pet Friendly has selected seven of America’s dog friendliest luxury dog friendly hotels. These hotels offer Rover plenty to bark home about — from dining on beef tenderloin entrees with sides of scrambled eggs and rice to being greeted with a flower lei and heartfelt aloha.
On average, five-star hotels tend to have comparatively lenient pet policies. As with all hotels, prices vary greatly depending on the month. Exceptional deals on five-star hotels are readily available for those with flexible vacation schedules. For example, Waldorf Astoria Chicago charges up to $600 plus on many days in peak season, but during specific dates, that same room may be only $235. When paying a three-star price for a five-star hotel simply means taking a vacation a little early, the many amenities and pet perks may easily make up for alternative scheduling.
Travelers should be aware that rooms at five-star hotels tend to sell out fast. For instance, April typically has limited availability and rooms for early summer months are dwindle fast. No matter the time of year, those traveling with a pet in tow must call any hotel one week prior to their arrival date to re-confirm. This extra step is required by most pet-friendly establishments including America’s to luxury dog friendly hotels.
Vacation Pet Friendly selected its top seven luxury dog friendly hotels in America based on the pet perks; pet friendliness of the hotel staff; and pet policies including the number of pets allowed, the size of the pet and fee requirements.
Pet Hotels of America’s Top Seven Luxury Dog Friendly Hotels
#1 – The Little Nell, in Aspen, Colorado – This boutique five-star hotel is a dream come true for pet owners wanting to feel wholeheartedly welcomed in the heart of Aspen. Dogs of all sizes are accommodated. Upon arrival, Rover will receive a Puppy Jet Lag kit comprised of a personalized brass identification tag with the hotel’s address and phone number, food and water bowl, and logo-embroidered doggie bed. He will have his own pet menu, with a selection of such delicacies as beef tenderloin with side dishes of scrambled eggs and brown rice, grilled organic chicken breasts with carrots and rice, gilled salmon with scrambled eggs and brown rice. The hotel offers group or solo dog walks for a nominal fee. Dog-sitting services are available by request.
#2 — Hotel Palomar, San Diego – Dogs and cats stay free and no deposit is required. Any number of pets is welcome regardless of size, weight, kind, or breed. Hotel Palomar’s lenient pet policy is unusual for any rated facility, let alone a five-star hotel. The hotel’s pet-loving staff has been known to allow pets to sit with them at the reception desk while the owner steps out for short periods. Plus, it’s easy to arrange for walking services. This nicety isn’t on the hotel’s menu of regular services, but its pet-friendly staff does its best to lend a helping hand whenever possible. Basic pet amenities include: cozy beds, dining bowls and special treats of biscuits and cookies placed in cookie jars throughout the hotel. Staff members are so pet friendly, during slow season they sometimes bring their dogs.
#3– The Surrey in New York City – The Surrey has in place its Jet Set Pet Program, which is part of the reason it so easily made the list of top luxury dog friendly hotels. The Jet Set Pet Program includes a plush pet bed and food & water bowls. The hotel staff assists in arranging extra services for its four-legged friends. There are no size nor breed restrictions. Prior approval by the hotel is necessary if traveling with an exotic animal. Travelers are advised to confirm pet travel arrangements one week prior to arrival. The hotel asks that travelers not leave a pet unattended in a room for long periods and never overnight. Should a pet inadvertently cause damage, the traveler will be charged a minimum of $250 for cleaning or repairs. There is a $25 pet fee per stay, which is comparatively low.
#4 – St. Regis San Francisco –This five-star delight has a loyal following of pet travelers. It proudly boasts to be by far the most pet-friendly hotel in San Francisco. Guests may expect room service delivery of a comfy dog bed with the hotel’s insignia toys and treats. The front desk is always willing to arrange for pet sitting and dog walking services. Up to two dogs per room with a 30-pound weight limit each are allowed. This weight limit exceeds most hotels. There is a $150 non-refundable fee.
#5 – The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas — This hotel is bursting with hospitality even though it is one of Vacation Pet Friendly’s lowest priced and pet-friendly five-star hotels. Pets are welcomed with insignia pet beds, and travel dog and food bowls that Rover may take with him. Guests are given a stylish monogrammed belt-attachable waste bag holder, dog treats and a portable water bottle to take on outings. The hotel accepts dogs and cats up to 25 pounds for a $125 non-refundable cleaning fee per stay. The famous Southern hospitality definitely takes hold here which is why it is one of America’s top luxury dog friendly hotels.
#6 – The Kahala Hotel and Resort – This Oahu hotel was selected as one of Vacation Pet Friendly’s favorite luxury dog friendly hotels for many reasons. It is a heavenly delight for dogs, where they are greeted with a cookie with the their name on it. Dogs also have been known to get flower lei upon arrival. Each is given his own water bowl and mat. Rooms may go as high as $650 per night, but travelers looking for a bargain may find a handful of availabilities in early summer at under $500. Dogs under 40 pounds are allowed upon request at no extra charge. One dog per room is allowed. A $150 cleaning fee is applied. A waiver form must be signed at check in. Travelers should keep in mind that Hawaii is a rabies-free state with stringent restrictions, which may be found at the State of Hawaii Department of Agriculture website. This means the animal will need to be in quarantine for a minimum of five days.
#7 — Four Seasons Hotel New York, NYC
At the Four Seasons Hotel New York, big dogs enjoy comfortable large pillow beds and the little pups have privy to cushy semi-circle round beds. A mat and two bowls are set up in the room for food and water, along with a bottle of Evian. The hotel provides strolls around the premises for up to a half hour for $20 and the concierge will arrange for longer walks through an outside service. Dogs also get a warm in-room welcome with a biscuit made in the bakery department along with a welcoming letter, which includes waste bags. Guests may special order food items off the human menu upon request. Central Parks is approximately a five-minute walk. There is no charge for dog stays. For these and many reasons, this establishment made the 2013 list of Vacation Pet Friendly’s top luxury dog friendly hotels.

How to Get Three-Star Rates on Luxury Dog Friendly Hotels
At luxury dog friendly hotels, you will find the rates change daily. A room could cost $600 one day because they have a large group staying there and then drop to $225 the next because of availability. If you are a traveler that has the the luxury of waiting until the last minute deals become available, typically you will see them appear at 48 hours prior to the time you want to arrive. This is the perfect way to book if you are on a road trip and have other options or if your vacation time is flexible. This is because hotels find out they have more availability because of cancellations or off-target occupancy projections.
Rooms at luxury dog friendly hotels also vary dramatically in price by season. For example, from January through March, you will find the greatest bargains.
